Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to apply as a hindi language tutor at your place.
Last weekend, I came across an advertisement about a couple in australia seeking a highly educated hindi language tutor for their children. I immidiately decied to grab such a wonderful opportunity. Currently, I am working as a hindi professor at delhi university in india. In the coming summer vacation, I am planning to visit my sister who stays in australia. Hence, I can visit your place to teach hindi to your children.
During my university days, I use to work as a part-time nanny, so I have a great experience at working and taking care of children. Also, I am a highly skilled in communication and organisation, which might be helpful to you as well.
Since, I would be visiting australia soon and might plan stay for two months, I would be able to teach hindi language to your children. I hope you would consider my application. Thankyou for your time. I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours sincerely
Riya. R.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explain your suitability as a Hindi professor, offer additional help through your experience as a nanny, and provide a reason for wanting the job (visiting your sister). However, there is a significant inconsistency: the advertisement asks for someone to teach for a year, but you state you are only planning to stay for two months. This makes your application logically weak as you cannot fulfill the primary requirement of the job. To improve, ensure your ideas align with the constraints provided in the task instructions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Currently', 'Also', and 'Hence' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and the transition between your professional background and your visit to Australia could be smoother. The use of 'Since' at the start of the final paragraph is slightly awkward in this context. Overall, the message is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'highly educated', 'opportunity', and 'organisation'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'immidiately' (immediately) and 'decied' (decided), which are minor but noticeable. You also use 'at your place' and 'stay for two months', which are functional but could be more sophisticated. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and ensure accuracy in spelling, as these errors slightly detract from the professional tone required for a job application.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I use to work' (used to work), 'I am a highly skilled' (I am highly skilled), and the incorrect capitalization of 'australia', 'hindi', and 'delhi university'. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and proper nouns. Proofreading for basic punctuation and capitalization would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
