Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam
I am writing to apply for position to teaching native language to your two toddlers. I have experience and i would be an excellent candidate for this position because i enjoy teaching and engaging them in fun way. I am responsible, kind and patient towards teaching.
In the past, i helped younger children by teaching them and improved their communication and language skills through games, storytelling and fun activities as i believed these could be more effective for them.
Moreover, I can also help your family in other ways such making simple meals and light cleaning. The main reason why i need this opporuinity that i can learn Austrailian culture while teaching my own language. Furthermore, i consider that living with family will allow us to learn from one another and also we can make unforgettable memories.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Your sincerely,
Kiran

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your suitability, offering additional help, and stating your reasons for wanting the job. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and your ideas are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat brief. For example, while you mention your experience with children, providing a specific anecdote or a more detailed description of your teaching methods would have strengthened your response. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with supporting details rather than just stated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly abrupt. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between your suitability and your additional help could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is clearly signposted for the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'candidate', 'communication skills', and 'unforgettable memories'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'opporuinity' and 'Austrailian', and a few word-choice issues, such as 'position to teaching' instead of 'position to teach'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and ensure careful proofreading to eliminate simple spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'i would be' (the pronoun 'I' should always be capitalized), 'engaging them in fun way' (missing article 'a'), and 'such making' (should be 'such as making'). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on consistent capitalization and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
