Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Mr/Mrs Sharma,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to introduce myself to you regarding the tutor you are looking for your children. Yesterday when I was reading the newspaper my got caught the attention towards the column below with the Hiring font.
To begin with, I am graduated from Oxford University specialization in English. I have done doctorate in English Honors from Princeton University. The main reason is I believe I consider myself perfectly suitable for this job. In my opinion I prefer quality over the quantity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to address the task requirements significantly. While you mention your suitability, you have not addressed what else you could do for the family or provided reasons for wanting the job. Furthermore, the response is severely under-length at 93 words, failing to meet the 150-word minimum requirement. This lack of development means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must ensure all three bullet points are covered in detail and that you write enough content to meet the minimum word count. Currently, the response is too brief to demonstrate the ability to develop ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter lacks a clear structure. While there is a greeting, the body paragraphs are underdeveloped and do not follow a logical progression. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and somewhat mechanical, such as 'To begin with,' which is not followed by a well-developed point. The paragraphing is insufficient, and the flow of ideas is disjointed. To improve, ensure each bullet point is addressed in its own paragraph with clear topic sentences and supporting details, using a wider range of linking words to connect your ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and contains several errors in word choice and collocation. For example, 'my got caught the attention' is grammatically incorrect and unnatural. Phrases like 'Hiring font' are also inappropriate for the context. You attempt to use academic credentials, but the phrasing is awkward. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and precise vocabulary relevant to a job application. Avoid over-using simple words and try to incorporate more sophisticated, context-appropriate terminology to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'I am graduated from Oxford University' (should be 'I graduated') and 'I have done doctorate' (missing article). The sentence structure is repetitive and lacks complexity. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and word order. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures before attempting complex ones. Pay close attention to verb tenses, article usage, and prepositions. Proofreading your work for these common errors will help improve your accuracy significantly.
