Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sam,
I am writing this letter to inform you regarding the opportunity you are looking for your children to learn a language. I think I can help you with that.
Considering the expectations, I have been helping the children's to learn different languages for a long time. Moreover, I was a tutor in an English-medium school teaching the language to the weak students. I have experience teaching the language for the last ten years.
In terms of expectations, I can even help your children learning different subjects related to their studies. I have the skills to help them with Maths, literature, and science. Additionally, I can help the kids with their daily schoolwork.
It is beyond doubt that everyone in this country needs to work to survive for living. I am really into looking for a job, and this will help me to fulfill my living possibilities.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my application. Hope to hear from you soon.
Best regards,
Meet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain your suitability by mentioning your ten-year teaching experience, suggest additional help with school subjects like Maths and science, and provide a reason for wanting the job. However, the explanation for wanting the job is somewhat weak and lacks a professional tone; stating that you need to work to 'survive for living' is slightly inappropriate for a formal application letter. To reach a higher band, ensure your reasons for wanting the position are more focused on your passion for education or cultural exchange rather than purely financial necessity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each bullet point, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In terms of', and 'Additionally' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences could be smoother. Some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the connection between the final paragraph and the rest of the letter is somewhat abrupt. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the structure is coherent.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your points clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'tutor', 'English-medium', and 'expectations'. However, there are some awkward collocations and phrasing, such as 'survive for living' and 'fulfill my living possibilities', which sound unnatural. To improve, focus on using more precise professional vocabulary. For example, instead of saying you are 'really into looking for a job', a more formal expression would be 'I am highly motivated to secure this position'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors. For instance, 'helping the children's to learn' is incorrect; it should be 'helping the children learn'. Additionally, 'help your children learning' should be 'help your children learn' or 'help your children with learning'. There are also minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of gerunds and infinitives.
