Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mark,
I hope you are doing well. I writing regarding an advertisement I came across recently for a home tutoring job and I believe, I would be well suited for it.
I have seen that you are searching for a home tutor to teach Hindi language for two of your children. And I'm very much interested in this role as I have been a high school teacher in India for 3 years, teaching Hindi language as the subject. Also, I live in Sydney, Australia which is a requirement you mentioned in your advertisement.
Also, I can arrange my schedule according to your convenience for the tutoring job. Due to which, you can be much confident about the supervision of your children. I can also arrange my own transportation to and forth from the location.
As I'm currently pursuing Bachelor's in Education degree in the Sydney University, this job will be really beneficial for my internship and later can add value to my resume.
I have attached my resume for your reference. Thank you for considering me. I hope you respond with great news.
Yours sincere

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explain your suitability by highlighting your teaching experience and local residency. You also mention your flexibility regarding scheduling and transportation, and provide a clear reason for wanting the job related to your current studies. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a potential employer. To reach a higher band, ensure that the development of ideas is slightly more detailed; for instance, you could briefly elaborate on specific teaching methods you would use for the children to make your application even more persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'Also' and 'Due to which' to link sentences. However, the use of 'Also' at the start of two consecutive paragraphs is slightly repetitive. Using a wider variety of transition words, such as 'Furthermore' or 'In addition,' would improve the flow and demonstrate better control over paragraph-level cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'tutoring job,' 'pursuing,' and 'reference' correctly. The language is generally natural and appropriate for the context. There are a few minor issues with word choice, such as 'to and forth' (should be 'to and fro' or 'back and forth') and 'much confident' (should be 'more confident'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive sentence starters. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly without any misunderstanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional-like structure in your second paragraph and the participial phrase in the fourth. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'I writing' (missing 'am') and 'the Sydney University' (should be 'the University of Sydney'). Additionally, 'Yours sincere' is incorrect; it should be 'Yours sincerely.' While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences would help you achieve a higher band score in this criterion.
