Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Mr. Hopper,
I came across your advertisement on international news paper, times of news. I am writing this letter to express my interest for a language tutor for your children.
I believe I am a best fit for the role due to my academic achievement and more than four years of experience in the field. I have done masters in Hindi literature and taking multiple online classes with the over 50 students in each batch.
I can provide an additional discount for children as there are very few people who wants their kid to learn any Indian language which itself inspiring.
I think I would be the great fit because I have multiple classes on different time depends on your schedule. Furthermore, I provide one on one session as well which in your case is more beneficial.
I am looking forward to have one on one conversation to discuss the future opportunity.
Kind regards,
Krupa.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You explain your suitability through your academic background and experience, mention additional services (one-on-one sessions), and provide reasons for wanting the job. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the mention of a 'discount' is not particularly relevant to the family's needs for a tutor, and the explanation of why you want the job is quite brief. To improve, ensure that your reasons for applying are more personal and clearly linked to the family's specific situation, rather than focusing on general availability.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. Paragraphing is used to separate different ideas, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical. Phrases like 'Furthermore' and 'I think' are used, but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Some sentences feel slightly disjointed, and the connection between your experience and the specific needs of the family could be better articulated to improve the overall flow of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'academic achievement' and 'beneficial'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and minor errors, such as 'international news paper' (should be 'newspaper') and 'I am a best fit' (should be 'the best fit'). Additionally, 'which itself inspiring' is grammatically incomplete. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score. Focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring word forms are correct.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally hinder the flow. For example, 'I have done masters' should be 'I have a Master's degree', and 'taking multiple online classes' lacks a subject. There are also issues with article usage ('the' before 'international news paper') and verb tense consistency ('I am looking forward to have' should be 'to having'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to limit the score.
