Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Recipients,
I saw your advertisement for a language tutor for your two children. I want to apply for this job. I have taught this language for over three years. I can help you children to become proficient and fluent in this language within a year.
During my studies, I was working as an online language tutor for almost 2 years as a part time job and then, after my graduation I opt this profession as a full time job. My teaching skills are always admired by the all students and their parents.
Besides teaching language, I can also serve as a tutor for their other academic subjects as I am a graduate in the field of medicine. You don't need to hire a separate tutor for your children because I have an exceptionally excellent academic background and have a command in all subjects. It will be beneficial for you too because it will save your time, money and energy in making a new advertisement for other subjects tutor.
As I am pursuing my masters degree now and I need a job to fulfil my own academic requirements. If I secure this job it will be a great favour for me.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
Yours Truly,
Amna

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your suitability through your teaching experience, offer additional help with academic subjects, and provide reasons for wanting the job. However, the tone is slightly inconsistent; while the content is relevant, the phrasing in the final paragraph regarding the job being a 'favour' for you is somewhat unprofessional and shifts the focus away from the value you provide to the family. To improve, ensure the tone remains consistently professional and focused on the employer's needs throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. Transitions between sentences could be smoother; for example, the jump from discussing your medical background to the benefits for the parents is a bit abrupt. Using more varied linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition to this' would help improve the flow and demonstrate a higher level of control over the structure of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proficient', 'fluency', and 'academic background'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'opt this profession' (should be 'opted for this profession') and 'admired by the all students' (the 'the' is unnecessary). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band. Incorporating more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing would enhance your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I can help you children' (should be 'your children'), 'I opt this profession' (tense error), and 'a new advertisement for other subjects tutor' (should be 'a tutor for other subjects'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct article usage will help you achieve greater accuracy in your writing.
