Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing to apply for the position of Hindi tutor that I saw on social media.
I would be suitable for this position as I have worked as tutor at Saint Rosy School in Delhi which is famous secondary education institute in my nation. Where I have worked as a Hindi language teacher since 5 years. I am fully available during weekends and I think it is best time to teach your children virtually as they don't have school during those days. I have library room at my home which is quite and peaceful. This is best place where i can join your children virtually. There will be 8 months course and rest months will be worked on learning fluency.
I want this job as I am really passionate about teaching my national language worldwide. In fact I have 200+ student worldwide to whom I offer virtual courses for Hindi language. Therefore , your children will definitey learn new language quickly and also enjoy the classes with me.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Your Faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt, which is excellent. You explained your suitability by mentioning your teaching experience, described your availability and environment, and provided reasons for wanting the job. However, the task asks you to say 'what else you could do for the family,' and your response is slightly weak here. You mentioned virtual teaching, but you did not offer additional help, such as helping with homework, cultural activities, or light household tasks, which would have made your application more compelling. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the opening 'Dear Sir/Madam' is slightly generic given the prompt specifies writing to a couple.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In fact' and 'Therefore,' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. For instance, the transition between your teaching experience and your home environment could be smoother. Additionally, the paragraphing is functional, but the letter would benefit from a more natural progression of ideas. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel slightly disjointed due to the lack of varied linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly, such as 'passionate,' 'virtually,' and 'fluency.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, you wrote 'since 5 years' instead of 'for 5 years,' and 'famous secondary education institute' should be 'a famous secondary educational institution.' There are also minor spelling errors like 'definitey' and 'quite' (instead of 'quiet'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise professional terminology would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully communicate your message, there are frequent grammatical errors. Common issues include missing articles ('I have library room'), incorrect prepositions ('worked as tutor'), and tense inconsistencies ('rest months will be worked'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. While your meaning is always clear, the frequency of these minor errors indicates that you are not yet consistently producing error-free complex sentences.
