Dear .................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear MR and MRS John
I hope you are doing well . I have seen your advertisement about looking for a person to teach Hindi language to your child . I wanted to apply for this position.
I have done my PHD in Hindi from well known university in Mumbai called Shivaji university. I have been teaching this language from last 7 years and I have won so many awards as a best teacher so far . And currently I am living in Australia , so that I can give my best to your child to give a proper knowledge .
Professionally, I am working as English tutor in Secondary school in Melbourne . Even if you want your child to learn basic English , I can do that as well .I'll provide knowledge of basic etiquettes ,manners with some basic greetings ,this will boost your child's confidence .
My main reason for getting this job is that I considered Hindi as my mother ,I respect this language a lot and I love to teach Hindi .But unfortunately this is not possible in Australia and now I am getting chance to get in touch with it ,I don't want to loose that.
Look forward to your positive response and wish a good success to your child.
Yours Truly
Sukhman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your suitability through your academic background and teaching experience. You also offer additional help with English and etiquette, and provide a personal motivation for wanting the job. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening salutation 'Dear MR and MRS John' is slightly unconventional; 'Dear Mr and Mrs [Surname]' would be more standard. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands your qualifications and enthusiasm for the role.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each addressing a specific part of the task. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from your qualifications to your additional skills and finally your motivations. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Professionally' and 'Even if', to link your ideas. However, the use of transition words could be more varied to improve the flow. Some sentences are slightly disjointed, and the connection between the paragraphs could be smoother to achieve a more professional, cohesive tone throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'advertisement', 'position', and 'etiquettes'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'give a proper knowledge' (should be 'provide thorough instruction') and 'loose that' (should be 'lose that'). While your meaning is always clear, the vocabulary is somewhat basic and lacks the precision required for a higher band. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring correct spelling, particularly with common words like 'lose' instead of 'loose'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I have done my PHD' (should be 'I hold a PhD'), 'teaching this language from last 7 years' (should be 'for the last 7 years'), and 'I considered Hindi as my mother' (should be 'I consider Hindi my mother tongue'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after commas and periods. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage.
