Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my interest to teach the children English for a year.
I believe, I am suitable for this job because recently I completed my master in English and I have been living in this country from last five years. During the study, I was working part-time English teacher and I had experience around two years.
Apart from this, I also have better understanding in math and science. I would like to help in these subjects, If children have any problem in these courses. I am familiar with different teaching methods, which would make the learning interesting.
Becoming a teacher is my one of the dreams, and I think starting with your children is a better option for me. After completing study, I am looking for a job to balance my finances. This is a reason, I want this job.
I look forward to hearing your response and working with you.
Yours sincerely,
Rajbeer Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your suitability, offering additional help, and stating your reasons for wanting the job. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when mentioning your teaching experience, you could have provided more specific details about the age groups you taught or the specific methods you used. Additionally, the reason for wanting the job—'to balance my finances'—is a bit blunt for a professional application. Expanding on your passion for education or cultural exchange would have made your motivation more compelling and professional.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this' and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. The transition between your qualifications and your motivation could be smoother. While the paragraphing is clear and appropriate for a letter format, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'teaching methods' and 'part-time'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'interest to teach' (should be 'interest in teaching') and 'completed my master' (should be 'completed my master's degree'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise professional vocabulary related to education and childcare, and ensure you are using the correct collocations for academic and professional contexts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'I have been living in this country from last five years' (should be 'for the last five years'), 'I was working part-time English teacher' (should be 'I worked as a part-time English teacher'), and 'This is a reason, I want this job' (should be 'This is the reason why I want this job'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, though they do not significantly impede communication.
