Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing in connection with advertisement for one year language classes.
This is Rajvir kaur, I am a Punjabi teacher at Gurmat School in Sydney.
After school I am working as a home tutor.
Firstly, I have completed Punjabi language course in India as well as in Australia. I am a certified teacher working privately since 2019.
Secondly, I m able to assist you as a baby sitter while during one hour class you can do your household chores. I had worked as a ECA in 2017 that helps me to make a strong bond with students.
Furthermore, I teach my students basic greeting manners and communication skills that includes in Punjabi classes.
Every Friday I take a test to check their eligibility.
I would love to do this job privately at your home as I recently moved to this area so I want to share my skills in new neighborhood.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
yours faithfully,
Rajvir

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: your suitability, additional help, and your reasons for wanting the job. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when mentioning your suitability, you list your qualifications but do not elaborate on how your teaching style would specifically benefit their children. Similarly, the reasons for wanting the job are brief. To reach a higher band, try to expand on your points with more descriptive detail, such as explaining how your experience as an ECA helps you manage children effectively in a home environment.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Furthermore' to signal the progression of your ideas. However, the paragraphing is a bit fragmented, with some very short sentences that disrupt the flow. To improve, consider combining related ideas into more cohesive sentences and using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'In addition to', 'Consequently', 'Given my background'). The overall progression is clear, but the mechanical nature of the transitions prevents a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'certified teacher', 'household chores', and 'communication skills'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'in connection with advertisement' (missing an article) and 'that includes in Punjabi classes' (awkward phrasing). You also rely on some repetitive structures. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure you use articles correctly. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I am writing in connection with advertisement' (missing 'the'), 'I m able' (missing apostrophe), and 'that helps me to make' (subject-verb agreement/tense issues). While these errors do not impede communication, they are noticeable and occur regularly. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic errors like missing articles, punctuation, and verb tense consistency. Increasing your use of error-free complex sentences will also help elevate your score in this criterion.
