Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your suitability, offering additional help, and stating your reasons for wanting the job. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter of application. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For example, when discussing your reasons for wanting the job, the mention of 'earning big chunks of money' is slightly informal and lacks the professional nuance expected in a formal letter. To improve, ensure that your motivations sound more career-oriented and professional, and expand slightly on how your specific teaching experience would benefit the children in an Australian context.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Apart from teaching' and 'along with it' to transition between ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The use of 'that’s why' is slightly informal for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to improve the flow between sentences, and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother and less reliant on simple conjunctions.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use relevant terms like 'advertisement', 'nourishment', and 'housekeeping'. However, there are some instances of awkward word choice or informal phrasing, such as 'big chunks of money' and 'dealing with students in a calm way'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word form, such as 'children’s' (should be 'children'). To improve, focus on using more precise, professional collocations and avoid overly colloquial expressions when writing formal correspondence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For instance, 'I am writing this letter to you for showing my interest' should be 'to show my interest'. There are also punctuation issues, such as the space before the comma in 'children’s ,'. Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are generally accurate, but the sentence structure could be more varied. To improve, focus on proofreading for small errors in articles, prepositions, and punctuation, and try to incorporate more sophisticated complex sentence structures.
