Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Devgan,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my interest in the job to teach language to your children for a year, which is recently advertised by you in the newspaper.
I believe I am a strong candidate for this role for several reasons. Firstly, Punjabi is my mother tongue, allowing me to teach and explain this language more efficiently and precisely. In addition, in the back home, I worked as a primary school teacher. Due to this reason, I am very comfortable to teach younger children and knows the techniques hoe to engage them in studies.
In addition to teach language, I can also organize extra- curricular activities for your children that helps them in their overall development. Moreover, I am also willing give them exposure about Punjabi culture, so they can remain connect with their cultural roots.
I am an international student in Australia, and I am looking for a job to cover some of my expenses. I am also interested in this role because I have always been interested in teaching younger children. This position helps me perform my desired job and also contribute to my country by teaching cultural language.
Thank you for considering my application. I am looking forward to discussing this opportunity further at your convenience.
Yours faithfully,
Harmeet kaur.

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You clearly explained your suitability by highlighting your mother tongue and teaching experience, suggested additional contributions like extracurricular activities and cultural exposure, and provided clear reasons for wanting the job. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for example, you could elaborate on the specific types of extracurricular activities you would organize to show more initiative. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother, particularly in the third paragraph where the connection between your personal situation and your motivation could be more fluid.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'candidate', 'overall development', and 'exposure'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'in the back home' (should be 'back home' or 'in my home country') and 'remains connect' (should be 'remain connected'). While you successfully convey your meaning, the vocabulary is somewhat functional. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items that sound more natural in a professional context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'which is recently advertised' (should be 'which was recently advertised'), 'in addition to teach' (should be 'in addition to teaching'), and 'knows the techniques hoe to' (should be 'know the techniques on how to'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more consistent control over verb forms and prepositions. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy will help improve your score.
