Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Smith,
I hope you are doing well. I recently saw your advertisements about you looking language teacher for your children. You are looking for a Hindi language teacher for them.
I have been teaching that language seen past 7 years. Also, it is my mother tongue so I have been using this language seen my childhood. I think I could help you with teaching your children this language. I prefer to make the learning as a fun activity so that children find it easy and exciting. I would make sure that your children learn the language effectively and in short period of time.
I usually take 5 classes a week each of 1 hour per day. This will be around 3 months long course where your children will reach the intermediate level of that particular language. Also, if you want me to complete the course sooner, I can take 1 and half hours class each day to make the process quicker. I can also help your children with the homework any time.
As, I am searching for this job since a while, I hole that you will take me in consideration. I can give you some discount if the fees high for you. I would make sure to teach efficiently to your children and will also try to make them fluent.
If you find me a best candidate for this job please contact me and we can discuss the fees and the suitable time for the classes.
Thanh you.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly explain your suitability by highlighting your experience and native proficiency, offer additional help with homework, and state your motivation for applying. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'Dear Smith' is slightly unnatural; 'Dear Mr. and Mrs. Smith' or 'Dear Parents' would be more standard. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands your qualifications and intentions. To reach a higher band, ensure that the purpose of the letter is stated more explicitly in the introduction and that the closing is more professional.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, with each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Also' and 'If', though the transition between ideas can sometimes feel a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from your qualifications to your teaching methodology and finally to your availability. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'In addition to this', 'Consequently') to create a smoother flow between sentences and paragraphs, rather than relying on simple conjunctions.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully conveying your meaning. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'seen' instead of 'since' and 'hole' instead of 'hope'. While you use some relevant terms like 'intermediate level' and 'effectively', the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. For example, instead of saying 'make the learning as a fun activity', you could use 'incorporate engaging activities into the curriculum'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and prepositions, such as 'I have been teaching that language seen past 7 years' and 'I am searching for this job since a while'. Additionally, there are minor punctuation and spelling slips like 'Thanh you' and 'fees high'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage to enhance the accuracy of your writing.
