Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Kim/Sara,
My name is uday. I am reaching out about the advertisement posted in the newspaper regarding the teaching of native language for your kids.
I am currently working as a teaching assistant for St Andrews School . I have almost 6 plus years of professional experience to the children's who are same as your kids ages. From my professional experience I can teach your kids to learn the language in simpler process with in a less than year.
I am very flexible with the timings for the kids to teach. I can also create assignments and tests for the kids so that they can practice even after the class is done.
Currently I am looking for an extra money after my professional work. My parents stay in another country I need to support them by sending the money for my father who is currently retired from the job .
Yours faithfully,
Uday

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your suitability, offering additional help, and stating your reasons for wanting the job. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention your experience as a teaching assistant, you could have provided more specific details about your teaching methods or the age groups you have worked with to make your application more persuasive. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter, though it leans slightly towards being overly informal in places. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with more depth and professional detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph addressing a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'I can also' and 'Currently', which help the reader follow your ideas. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall flow could be enhanced by using a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences more fluidly rather than relying on simple sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'professional experience', 'teaching assistant', and 'flexible'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'the children's who are same as your kids ages' and 'in a less than year'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that pluralization and preposition usage are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the advertisement'), pluralization ('the children's'), and prepositions ('in a less than year'). Additionally, there are some punctuation issues, such as the spacing around 'St Andrews School'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your intent, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the text. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and basic sentence construction will help improve your accuracy.
