Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter regarding a job advertisement posted on yesterday's news paper "The Sydney Morning Herald" for a Punjabi language tutor position.
In my opinion, I would be a perfect candidate for this opportunity as my roots are in Punjab and it is my mother tongue. Additionally, I have been teaching diverse languages for a couple of years to the adolescents and have gained exceptional experience. I have completed a diploma in child care too that not only would help me in teaching the children but also take care of them.
I can inculcate wholesome customs to the children as time management, obeying elders and team work. This will leads to overall growth of the children.
I want to get this job as I have recently moved to Australia and i am looking for a full time job in my domain so, I can manage my expenses. I believe this is a great opportunity for me keep work-life balance and earning while enjoying with the children.
I would like to thank you for considering my application and I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss how my experience and skills could contribute to linguistic journey of your children.
I am looking forward to hearing back from you.
yours sincerely,
Rajpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt effectively. You explained your suitability by highlighting your background and teaching experience, suggested additional help through childcare, and provided clear reasons for wanting the job. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening salutation 'Dear Sir/Madam' is slightly generic given the prompt specifies writing to a 'couple'. A more personalised opening would have been better. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing a clear picture of your qualifications and motivations. The letter maintains a consistent purpose throughout, and the content is fully aligned with the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Additionally', 'In my opinion', and 'I would like to thank you', which help connect your thoughts. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is sound. While the use of cohesive devices is functional, it is not yet fully sophisticated or varied enough to reach the highest band, but it is certainly clear and effective.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using terms like 'adolescents', 'inculcate', and 'linguistic journey' appropriately. There are some minor issues with collocation, such as 'news paper' (should be one word: 'newspaper') and 'enjoying with the children' (which is slightly unnatural; 'enjoying my time with the children' would be better). Despite these minor slips, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning with precision and flexibility. You successfully use topic-specific language related to teaching and childcare, which enhances the quality of your response. The range is adequate to express your ideas clearly and effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I have completed a diploma in child care too that not only would help me in teaching the children but also take care of them.' While there are some grammatical errors, such as 'This will leads to' (should be 'This will lead to') and 'i am looking' (the pronoun 'I' should always be capitalised), these errors do not impede communication. Your control over punctuation is generally good, though there are occasional slips. The majority of your sentences are clear, and you show a good attempt at using varied structures to express your thoughts.
