Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Parents

I had seen a advertisement that you wanted a tutor for your children. As your children are in secondary school and they wanted to learn the Arabic language now. I can teach them very well because I have a Masters in Arabic language and already pursuing the Ph.D in same field. So I can taught them the language in an organized way and much better rather than the normal teacher. And also I have five years of teaching experience to the new students for this language. I have already a well maintained notes which can make the language very easy to understand for new comers.

One thing more I can provide the home service for teaching. Also share the reports with the parents for their children's improvement.

I want this job because I am always curious to taught the new students as it's comes under my PhD research that how to deal with new students for this specific language learning.

Thanks and Regards

Mr. Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your suitability, offering additional services, and stating your reasons for wanting the job. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention your qualifications, the explanation of why you are 'better than a normal teacher' is a bit vague. To improve, try to provide more specific details about your teaching methodology or how your research specifically benefits the children. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the opening 'Dear Parents' is slightly generic; using 'Dear Mr. and Mrs. [Name]' would be more professional.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For instance, you start several sentences with 'And also' or 'I have'. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'In addition to this', 'Consequently') to connect your ideas more fluidly. Additionally, the transition between your qualifications and your offer to provide home services feels a bit abrupt. Improving the flow between these sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'pursuing', 'organized', and 'improvement'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'I had seen a advertisement' (should be 'an advertisement') and 'I can taught them' (should be 'I can teach them'). The phrase 'well maintained notes' is also slightly unnatural in this context. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your verb forms are consistent. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated descriptors for your teaching skills would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

Your writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement and tense usage, such as 'I can taught them' instead of 'I can teach them', and 'it's comes under' instead of 'it comes under'. Additionally, there are punctuation and article errors, such as 'a advertisement' and 'the Ph.D in same field'. While these errors do not prevent the message from being understood, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on proofreading for basic verb forms and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
