Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Kapoor,

I hope you are doing great. I came through an advertisement that you posted in the newspaper regarding the need of a Punjabi teacher for your two young kids. I am writting to express my intreset to grab this opportunity.

I think, I am the best suited candidate for this position because I have done my B.ED in Punjabi and have had 5 years of experience of teaching in Government school of India.

I am very passionate towards music also and if your kids have any eagerness to learn music instruments, I am able to provide those classes too. I hope this will help them to utilize their free time effectively.

I have recently moved to Australia and sometimes I feel isolated. My eagerness to do this job is to intract with the kids and I hope after spending quality time with your bundle of love, maybe I miss my charm less. Also, I want to utilize my expertise in Australia as well and earn some spare money.

I hope you consider my application and give me a chance of teaching our mother language to your children. I am waiting for your response.

Yours faithfully,

Kamal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your suitability by mentioning your B.Ed and teaching experience, offer additional help through music lessons, and provide personal reasons for wanting the job. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a family. To reach a higher band, ensure that your reasons for wanting the job are presented in a more professional manner; currently, the mention of feeling 'isolated' and wanting to 'miss my charm less' is slightly informal and could be phrased more professionally to focus on your desire to contribute your skills to a new community.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is well-organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a polite closing. Each paragraph has a central topic, which makes the letter easy to follow. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Also' and 'I hope' to link ideas. To improve, try to use a wider range of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly. For example, instead of starting sentences with 'I', you could vary the structure to improve the flow between your experience and your motivation for the role.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your points clearly. Phrases like 'best suited candidate' and 'utilize my expertise' are effective. However, there are some minor spelling errors ('writting', 'intreset', 'intract') and some slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'bundle of love' and 'miss my charm less', which are not standard collocations in this context. Focusing on more precise, professional vocabulary will help elevate your score. Ensure you proofread carefully to avoid simple spelling mistakes that detract from your otherwise clear communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I came through an advertisement' (should be 'came across'), 'passionate towards music' (should be 'passionate about'), and 'teaching our mother language' (should be 'your children's mother tongue'). The punctuation is generally accurate, but there are occasional errors in verb usage and preposition choice. To achieve a higher band, aim for more error-free complex sentences and ensure that your verb tenses remain consistent throughout the letter.
