Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mr. And Mrs Smith,

I am writing this letter in regards to the recent which I come across in a newspaper about teaching a new language for your wards. I am very certain that I would be ideal person to take this responsibility.

Firstly, I am a certified French teacher at Vibgyor international college, having 4 years experience teaching french language. I have extremely good reviews on my teaching methods at my college.

Moreover, I adopted several skills to deliver my lessons more effectively, especially for the young ones. This course covers both theoretical and practical knowledge and enable one to learn more conveniently.

Secondly, I can also look after your little one during your busy work schedules, can help you with cooking variety of recipes and if required I can also help with the some grocery shopping from nearest supermarket.

Finally, I am eagerly looking for this opportunities to earn some bucks to cover my educational fees, maintain my daily expenses and highly to gain some experience teaching the children.

I am hoping you will consider my proposal and offer this opportunity.

Yours faithfully,

Anjali Reddy

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: your suitability, additional help you can offer, and your reasons for wanting the job. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention your teaching experience, you could have provided more specific details about your pedagogical approach or how you would engage the children. The reasons for wanting the job are also quite brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that your points are not just listed but are expanded upon with more depth and relevant detail to fully satisfy the reader's requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a conclusion. You have used basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Finally' to signal the progression of your ideas. However, the transition between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more refined. For example, the second paragraph is quite short and could be better integrated. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'the recent which I come across', where the noun is missing. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'certified', 'theoretical', and 'practical knowledge'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors that impact the naturalness of your writing. Phrases like 'earn some bucks' are too informal for this context, and 'teaching a new language for your wards' is slightly unnatural. There are also some missing words, such as 'the recent [advertisement] which I come across'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary choice consistently matches the formal tone required for a job application letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I come across' (should be 'I came across'), 'ideal person to take' (missing article 'the'), 'help with the some grocery shopping' (incorrect article usage), and 'looking for this opportunities' (plural/singular mismatch). Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as the greeting 'Dear Mr. And Mrs Smith,' which should be 'Dear Mr and Mrs Smith,' or 'Dear Mr. and Mrs. Smith,'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage.
