Task 1.

Day: Wednesday

Dear Sir and Madam,

I am Harneet Kaur, a long standing Indian citizen. I am writing to express my interest in teaching Punjabi to your two children for a year as per your advertisement posted in the newspaper.

The most prominent factor that gravitates my interest towards this is my passion of teaching. Additionally, I have volunteer experience of teaching all major subjects to primary school students and commerce courses to high school learners. Owing to which I assume that I am well suited for this position.

Besides this, I would also instruct some other academic subjects to your young ones in which they require assistance. Furthermore, if you would be interested, I would educate your family about my tradition and culture that would assist you all to explore another country while staying in your own nation.

At present, I am tight on my schedule because of my personal and work related commitments, however, I do not want to give up my passion, so, this is the reason that why I am applying for this role. Moreover, I am seeking an additional source of income which also aids me in rejuvenating from hustle bustle of life.

I hope you will consider my application and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Harneet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt effectively. You clearly explained your suitability by highlighting your volunteer experience, offered additional help with other subjects and cultural exchange, and provided personal reasons for wanting the job. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the context of the advertisement. To reach a higher band, ensure that the reasons for wanting the job are more focused on the benefits of the role itself rather than just personal rejuvenation, as this would make the application more persuasive to the potential employers.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. You have used a range of cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Owing to which', 'Besides this', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the task. The progression of ideas is smooth and easy to follow. To improve, ensure that the transition between your personal motivations and the job requirements is more seamless, as the shift in the fourth paragraph feels slightly abrupt.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'long standing Indian citizen', 'prominent factor', and 'rejuvenating from hustle bustle' show an attempt to use more sophisticated language. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'gravitates my interest' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'instruct some other academic subjects' (where 'tutor' or 'assist with' would be more precise). Despite these minor issues, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound. There are a few minor errors, such as 'this is the reason that why I am applying' (redundant 'that') and 'I would instruct some other academic subjects' (where 'tutor' is grammatically better suited). Punctuation is generally accurate, and your control over complex structures is sufficient to maintain a professional tone throughout the letter. The errors present are infrequent and do not cause any difficulty for the reader.
