Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr & Ms Smith,
I am writing to express my interest in a job about teaching your two children French language for a year, as advertised. I believe It would be smooth teaching for me as I speak both languages English and French.
With over 10 years of experience as a French teacher, I have taught thousands of children in the past, and extensive knowledge about this language. Moreover, I am native French speaker so that I can assist your children in speaking and writing in a proper way. Moreover, I would be helpful to build some skills like communication, personalities development and team work which is also as important as learning French language.
The reason behind applying for this job is I am retired person and love to spend time with children and it would be great if I could help your kids to teach something significant skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: suitability, additional help, and reasons for applying. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. While you mention your experience, the explanation of why you are suitable could be more detailed. The section on what else you could do for the family is a bit vague, focusing on general skills rather than specific tasks. The reason for wanting the job is clear, but the tone is slightly informal for a formal letter. To improve, ensure you expand on your ideas with more specific examples or context to fully satisfy the requirements of a Band 7 or higher.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'The reason behind applying', though the use of 'Moreover' twice in the same paragraph is repetitive. The transition between ideas is generally clear, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and phrases. The opening and closing are appropriate for a formal letter, although the sign-off 'Regfar' appears to be a typo for 'Regards'. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the cohesion could be more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'express my interest', 'extensive knowledge', and 'significant skills'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'smooth teaching' and 'personalities development'. Additionally, there are minor errors like 'French language' (should be 'the French language') and the typo 'Regfar'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and ensure that your word choices are natural and contextually appropriate. The current range is sufficient for communication but lacks the flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'I am retired person' should be 'I am a retired person', and 'help your kids to teach something significant skills' is grammatically awkward. There are also issues with article usage and preposition placement. While these errors do not prevent the message from being understood, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of sentence construction. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
