Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter because I saw an advertisement that you want a good teacher who teaches the English language to your child.

I have already completed a 2-year course in english launguage lerning in university of Niagara Falls. Also, I worked in a summer camp last year in Italy as a professor. Furthermore, I am also looking for a job in this field, and I am willing that i will give my best in duty. Also, I am free all day, so i look after your children in my free time. Please let me know what else I can do for your family.

I want to pursue another course in this field, and because of that, I need money. If you give me this chance, it would be great for me.

I am looking forward to your reply. If you need any other information, I have attached it in my resume. Feel free to contact me at my number [redacted phone].

Best regards,

dhruva patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained your suitability by mentioning your university course and previous work experience, suggested additional help with childcare, and provided a clear reason for wanting the job. However, the tone is slightly inconsistent; for instance, addressing the couple as 'Sir/Madam' is too formal for a personal advertisement, and the phrasing 'I am willing that i will give my best in duty' is unnatural. To improve, ensure your tone is more conversational and professional, and expand slightly on how your specific skills would benefit their children to better meet the requirements of a Band 7.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Also', and 'because of that' to link your ideas. While the progression is generally clear, the use of 'Also' at the start of consecutive sentences in the second paragraph makes the flow feel a bit repetitive and mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to vary your transition words and use more sophisticated referencing to connect your sentences more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your points clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'advertisement', 'resume', and 'field'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'professor' (which usually refers to a university-level academic) and 'in duty'. Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'launguage' and 'lerning'. To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary related to teaching and childcare, and ensure you check your spelling of common academic terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am writing this letter because I saw an advertisement that you want a good teacher who teaches the English language to your child' (which is slightly awkward) and 'i look after your children' (missing modal verb 'could'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are issues with capitalization, such as the lowercase 'i'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs to express future intentions.
