Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing about the advertisement and I would like to express my interest in teaching my own language for your children for a year.
Firstly, I believe that my degree and the thesis papers which were published on my language literature, would make me a great fit for this position. Additionally, my teaching experience would add as a great asset, because it would help me to understand the children and change my teaching strategies according to them.
Apart from teaching, I would also provide my assistance in financial matters such as, filing your taxes. Simultaneously, I am proficient at teaching math and social studies, so I could also clear their doubts in algorithm and history.
Finally, I would be grateful if you could provide this opportunity as it would help to pay my tuition fee and make me stable financially. More importantly, I believe that this job would encourage me and also gives me a confidence to start my career in Australia as a teacher.
I would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Raj kumar Pratap

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explain your suitability by highlighting your academic background and teaching experience. You also provide relevant additional services, such as financial assistance and tutoring in other subjects, and clearly state your motivations for wanting the job. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on how your specific teaching strategies would benefit the children, as this would demonstrate a more thorough development of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is well-organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', 'Apart from', and 'Finally' to link your ideas. While the flow is logical, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression between sentences within paragraphs feels more natural and less reliant on list-like markers.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'express my interest', 'great fit', and 'prompt attention' are appropriate for a formal letter. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'add as a great asset' (should be 'act as' or 'be a great asset') and 'clear their doubts in algorithm' (math problems are usually 'solved', and 'algorithm' is a specific concept rather than a general subject). Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic or professional terminology would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are clear and error-free, which allows for easy communication. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'teaching my own language for your children' (should be 'to your children') and 'gives me a confidence' (should be 'gives me confidence'). Additionally, the phrase 'thesis papers which were published on my language literature' is slightly awkward. Despite these minor issues, your control over grammar is generally good, and the errors do not impede the reader's understanding of your message.
