Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Mr._________

I saw the advertisement that you need the tutor for your children to teach them the language for a given time period . With the five year of teaching experience i think I am the tutor you needed the most i used to teach the children XYZ school for five year.

I am very good at my work with the different teaching technique many of my students learn the certain language very quickly. i can give my lectures online as well if someone is out of country or because of other reasons if they needed online classes i can do that with the flexible timings.

As you know the how much high prices are of everything and i am facing shortage of fiance right now so i am looking for part time jobs i found this as a great opportunity .

i hope you consider me for teaching your children it would be great meeting with you.

Thanks,

Regards !

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: explaining your suitability, offering additional help, and stating your reasons for wanting the job. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For instance, you mention you can do 'other things' for the family, but you only elaborate on online teaching rather than offering household assistance or childcare support, which is often expected in such contexts. Additionally, the tone is somewhat informal and lacks the professional polish required for a formal letter of application. To improve, ensure your ideas are more fully extended and that the tone remains consistently professional throughout the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter follows a basic structure, but the paragraphing is insufficient. The entire body of the letter is presented as a single block of text, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of your ideas. You should use clear paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, the main body points, and the conclusion. While you use some cohesive devices like 'as well' and 'as you know', the flow is often interrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of logical transitions between sentences. Improving your use of linking words and organizing your thoughts into distinct paragraphs will significantly enhance the readability of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. You rely on basic terms such as 'very good at my work' and 'high prices'. There are also some noticeable errors in word choice, such as 'shortage of fiance' (likely meaning 'finances') and 'given time period'. These errors occasionally cause the reader to pause. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to professional settings, such as 'pedagogical methods', 'financial constraints', or 'professional development'. Focus on using words that accurately convey your meaning without ambiguity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('many of my students learn' vs 'learned'), article usage ('the language'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, such as the opening paragraph. You rely heavily on simple sentence structures, and your attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors that impede the flow. For example, 'if someone is out of country or because of other reasons if they needed online classes i can do that' is convoluted and grammatically incorrect. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
