Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to apply for language training for your children.
Firstly, i am a professional French speaker, with 10 years of experience. I have been teaching French, in school institutions and also provide home tutor service. I am confident, i can make them learn this language efficiently without fail.
Other than that, i can also take care of your household responsibilities. My few other skills are cooking delicious food and playing sports which i think can result in a complete package for you. I understand living abroad, makes your life busier than expected Whereas, appointing me can assist you in all aspects.
I am 27 years old. I am the only bread earner for my whole family and i strongly believe after receiving this golden opportunity i will be able to fulfill my parent's dream of buying our own house. I can assure you i will treat your kids like mine.
I hope you will consider me for this opportunity. Will look forward for your response.
Regards,
Stephanie

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your suitability, offering additional help, and stating your reasons for wanting the job. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'Dear Sir/Madam' is slightly impersonal given the prompt specifies the advertisement was from a 'couple'. You could have used 'Dear Mr and Mrs [Name]' or 'Dear Parents' to better reflect the context. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the explanation of your personal financial situation is perhaps a bit too detailed for a professional application, which slightly affects the professional tone.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Other than that', and 'Whereas' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between your professional skills and your personal financial motivation is somewhat abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professional French speaker', 'household responsibilities', and 'golden opportunity'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'provide home tutor service' (should be 'provide home tutoring services') and 'only bread earner' (usually 'sole breadwinner'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision required for a higher band score. You rely on fairly common phrasing throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several recurring grammatical errors, such as the failure to capitalize the pronoun 'I' in several instances ('i am', 'i can', 'i strongly believe'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the comma splice in 'I am confident, i can make them learn...' and the missing preposition in 'Will look forward for your response' (should be 'look forward to'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score in this criterion.
