Student answer (Band 4.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to share my constructive feedback regaring the short course of barbeque snacks which lasted for 3 months.
I was one of the student of evening batch in the summer season. I always loved to be a member of marination team, as it helped me to nuture my skills in using the spices and introducing new recepies.
Since I had completed this course, I organised three parties on the weekends to serve my guests with delicious steaks and other snacks. I was really appreciated for the taste and presentation of the food at the functions.
I would be very excited to join the classes for bakery items

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for a letter to a couple in Australia regarding a language teaching position, but the student has written a letter providing feedback on a barbeque cooking course. Furthermore, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement. Because the content does not address any of the bullet points or the core task instructions, it fails to meet the basic requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
While the letter follows a basic structure with a salutation and short paragraphs, the lack of relevance to the prompt makes the overall progression illogical. The ideas presented are disconnected from the task requirements. Cohesive devices are minimal, and the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is weak. The text is too short to demonstrate a range of cohesive devices or effective paragraphing skills.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'regaring' instead of 'regarding' and 'recepies' instead of 'recipes'. The student uses simple, everyday language that is sufficient for basic communication but lacks the range required for higher bands. The word choice is limited and does not demonstrate an ability to use less common lexical items or precise collocations effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains several grammatical errors, such as 'I was one of the student' (should be 'students') and 'Since I had completed' (should be 'Since I have completed'). The sentence structures are simple and repetitive. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and the lack of complex sentence structures limit the score. The text is too short to demonstrate a wide range of grammatical structures.
