Dear .................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my interest to teach Punjabi language to your children for a year.
I personally believe that i would be suitable for this job as I have an experience of teaching. I am a calm person who does not get angry under any circumstances. On the top of that, I am from Punjab so I can easily teach them from basic to advance level.
Apart from teaching, I can help you in house chores. I love trying new recipes. It would be a fun if we could do cooking together. As you mentioned that you have a pet, I will take him for a walk every evening. Furthermore, I would prefer to help you in cleaning and shopping too.
As I have completed my masters, now I want to take a break for a year. Instead of doing nothing, I want to do something productive and teaching your children is the best utilization of time. To add to it, I am planing to pursue P.hd, due to the fact that I have to earn money for my researches. I am available from October 2026 to October 2027.
Please let me know if you need any additional information. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Rimple Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explain your suitability by highlighting your teaching experience and personality, offer additional help with chores and pet care, and provide a logical reason for wanting the job (a gap year before PhD studies). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your reasons are slightly more elaborated; for example, you could explain why you are passionate about teaching children specifically, rather than just stating it is a productive use of time.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is well-organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'Apart from', 'Furthermore', and 'To add to it' to link your sentences. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the progression between sentences within paragraphs is smoother to achieve a more natural flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'productive', 'utilization', and 'circumstances' correctly. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'interest to teach' (should be 'interest in teaching') and 'from basic to advance level' (should be 'advanced'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision of less common lexical items that would be expected at a higher band level. Focusing on collocations will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'i would be' (the pronoun 'I' must always be capitalized), 'an experience of teaching' (should be 'experience in teaching'), and 'It would be a fun' (should be 'It would be fun'). Additionally, there is a spelling error: 'planing' should be 'planning'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and capitalization.
