Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to show my interest in teaching job as I seen an advertisement that you need a someone who can teach Indian language particular Gujarati to your two children in Australia.
I would love to teach them because I did teaching in my country in my coun and Gujarati language is my native language so I can teach them from the start from the base of the language.
I can also assist them with school lessons and help them in whichever subject they need. However. I can also help with family members like cooking or anything as this job is like a daycare.
I really want this Jon because I am new here and I am looking for a job so it can help my day spend. Moreover, it can enhance my experience level so I can find a professional Jon in future. If you need additional documentation from my side feel free to contact me.
Kind regards
Ritika

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt: explaining suitability, offering additional help, and stating reasons for wanting the job. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why you are suitable is brief, and the offer to help with 'cooking or anything' is vague and slightly unprofessional in tone. To improve, you should expand on your teaching methodology or specific experiences that make you a strong candidate. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter, though it occasionally lapses into informal phrasing that could be more polished to better suit a professional application.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each addressing a specific requirement of the task. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. For example, the transition 'However' is used incorrectly in the third paragraph, as it does not contrast with the previous sentence. Additionally, the connection between sentences could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used in the correct context would help elevate the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'teaching job' and 'help'. There are also some noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'Jon' instead of 'job' and the repetition of 'coun' in the second paragraph. While your meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is a lack of more sophisticated or 'less common' lexical items that would demonstrate a higher level of proficiency. Focusing on learning collocations and synonyms for common verbs will help improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'as I seen an advertisement' (should be 'as I saw' or 'have seen'), 'I did teaching' (should be 'I taught'), and 'help my day spend' (which is non-standard phrasing). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with sentence fragments like 'However.' and the misuse of full stops. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to suggest a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of verb tenses and sentence construction.
