Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing regarding the advertisement that you published looking for someone to teach your children his language for one year.
I would like to apply in this job. I strongly believe that I will be suitable for the role, because I would like to teach them French language. I was a teacher for 5 years in Paris. So, I have a beneficial experience in teaching a language.
In addition, while I am teaching your children, I can help you in other things concerning their homeworks and preparing them for the school exams. If you do not have enough time to do so for them, due to your work.
I am really in need for this job because I am planning to visit Australia after two years, in order to finish my PhD at the university of Sydney. Therefore, I appreciate it if you accept my application, I will be able to enhance my experience and also exploring the Australia's lifestyle.
Yours faithfully,
Samah

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task. You explained your suitability by highlighting your five years of teaching experience in Paris, offered additional help with homework and exam preparation, and provided a clear reason for wanting the job related to your future PhD studies. However, the tone is slightly inconsistent; you used 'Dear Sir or Madam' despite the prompt implying you are writing to a specific couple, and the closing 'Yours faithfully' is formal, whereas a more semi-formal tone would be more appropriate for this context. The ideas are relevant but could be developed with more specific detail to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Therefore', and 'However', which help the flow of information. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with sentence structure that occasionally disrupt the flow, such as the sentence fragment 'If you do not have enough time to do so for them, due to your work.' Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences are complete would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'advertisement', 'suitable', and 'application'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'apply in this job' (should be 'apply for') and 'beneficial experience' (a more natural choice would be 'valuable' or 'extensive'). Additionally, 'homeworks' is an uncountable noun and should simply be 'homework'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word usage to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'teach your children his language' (should be 'their language'), 'I am really in need for this job' (should be 'in need of'), and 'exploring the Australia's lifestyle' (should be 'exploring Australia's lifestyle'). Punctuation is generally clear, but the sentence fragment mentioned in the coherence section indicates a need for more careful proofreading of complex sentence constructions. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of errors prevents a higher score.
