Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to show my interest in the job of teaching language to your couple of children for a year that was recently published in the advertisement.
I am perfect person for this job because it not only aligns to my interest but also teaching is my passion. Punjabi is my mother tongue, so I can teach it in an effective way. Moreover, I have experience in child care so I am excellent to handle the children and stimulate them towards learning.
Along with teaching, I can do some household work, such as cleaning and cooking in the free time because I am extremely excellent in these skills as well. In addition, I can take the children nearby parks in the evening, so they can feel fresh and enjoy the nature.
I really need this job because I recently move to Australia, so currently I am looking for a job in order to manage my expenses. I would really appreciate it if this opportunity is provided to me and I will try my best to perform in this role.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Soni.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points in the prompt: suitability, additional help, and reasons for wanting the job. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'Dear Sir/Madam' is slightly inconsistent with the prompt's instruction to address a 'couple'. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, providing a logical flow for the reader. To reach a higher band, the student could expand on the 'suitability' section by providing more specific examples of their teaching style or experience with children, rather than just stating they are 'perfect' for the role.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is well-organized with a clear structure. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the task, which aids readability. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Along with', and 'In addition' helps to connect ideas logically. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the letter follows a standard formal format. To improve, the student should aim for a more natural flow between sentences by varying the types of cohesive devices used, rather than relying on simple additive connectors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their message clearly. Phrases like 'aligns to my interest' and 'stimulate them towards learning' are functional. However, there are some awkward collocations, such as 'excellent to handle' (should be 'excellent at handling') and 'extremely excellent', which is redundant. The range is sufficient for a General Training task, but lacks the precision and variety of less common lexical items that would characterize a higher band score. Focusing on more natural collocations would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I recently move to Australia' (should be 'moved') and 'teaching language to your couple of children' (should be 'your two children'). Punctuation is generally correct, but the sentence structure occasionally feels repetitive. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex sentence forms and ensuring consistent verb tense usage would help improve the grammatical accuracy.
