Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Raman,
I am writing this letter in response to your advertisement in which you are mentioned you are looking for someone who speaks Punjabi to teach your children for a year . I believe that I would be the perfect match.
Currently , I am working as a teacher of Punjabi language in my town High School .My current role will enable me to fulfill your all requirements . Moreover, I am also doing CPR course online which will be ended within 1 week . I am quite good in excel which will help managing timetables and will help in children homework as well.
As I do have driving licence , there will be no pick up and drop issue for kids and i can manage with all the other stuff like dishes , laundry , groceries and cleaning . I can also teach you Punjabi on your days off so you can also communicate with children in different way.
I always love to learn new culture and people . This opportunity will give me a chance to get more knowledge about other country's lifestyle and culture .
Your prompt response would be highly appreciated.
Regards,
Sandeep.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your suitability, offering additional help, and stating your reasons for wanting the job. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a potential employer. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention your teaching experience, you could have elaborated more on your teaching style or how you engage children. Similarly, your reasons for wanting the job are quite brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully extended with more specific detail rather than just listing your qualifications and chores.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'As I do have', which help the flow of information. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with punctuation and spacing (e.g., spaces before commas). The overall progression of ideas is clear, and the letter is easy to follow, but more varied linking words would improve the sophistication of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'advertisement', 'requirements', and 'communicate'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'will be ended' instead of 'will be completed' and 'no pick up and drop issue' which is slightly informal and awkward. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'in which you are mentioned you are looking' (should be 'in which you mentioned you are looking') and 'your all requirements' (should be 'all your requirements'). Additionally, there are some issues with articles and subject-verb agreement, such as 'I always love to learn new culture' (should be 'new cultures'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Proofreading for basic syntax and article usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
