Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing this letter to apply for the job of teaching Punjabi to your two children in an advertisement. I am excited to tell you that I am eagerly intrested in this opportunity.
I think, I will be the perfect option for this role as I was born and brought up in Punjab and Punjabi is my mother tongue, so teaching that language would be the easiest part for me.
Besides teaching Punjabi, your children will also get exposre to learn the cultural values and Punjabi tradition because my whole life is spent in Punjab.Apart from this, while learning I will make sure that they are learning new strategies and improving their cogniive skills.
I desprately want this job because working with children is my favourite part and teaching them my mother tongue will be more than a fun for me rather than feeling it like a job.
I hope my all aspects will be taken into account and I will get the prompt response from your side.
I look forward to hearning back from you.
Yours sencerely,
Pawandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your suitability based on your background, offer additional value regarding cultural education and cognitive development, and state your personal motivation for wanting the role. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal application letter. To improve, ensure that the opening is more specific; addressing the couple directly (e.g., 'Dear Mr. and Mrs. Smith') is better than 'Dear Sir/Madam' when the prompt specifies a couple. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 level of task fulfillment.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from your suitability to additional contributions and finally your motivation. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Besides', 'Apart from this', and 'I hope', which help the flow of the text. However, the transition between sentences could be smoother in some places to achieve a higher band. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the overall structure is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cultural values', 'cognitive skills', and 'prompt response'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'intrested', 'exposre', 'cogniive', 'desprately', 'hearning', and 'sencerely'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional quality of the letter. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, the frequency of spelling mistakes limits the score in this criterion. Focusing on proofreading your work for basic spelling accuracy will significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I am writing this letter to apply...' and 'Besides teaching Punjabi, your children will also get exposure...'. While your meaning is always clear, there are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'my whole life is spent in Punjab' (should be 'has been spent') and 'I hope my all aspects will be taken into account' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor issues with spacing around commas. The grammar is sufficient for communication but lacks the consistent control required for a higher band.
