Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr and Mrs Sharma,
I hope this letter finds you well. Today morning, while reading the news paper I came across an advert published by you stating that you require someone to teach your children English language for a year.
I firmly believe that I would be a perfect match for this job because of my previous education and experience. Since I have completed my degree in Early Childhood Education, I have been teaching kids in Joseph school. I have two years experience of teaching English language to students that gives me the confidence and skills in order to teach a language to a child.
Moreover, I have good cooking and organizational skills as it has been more than four years I am living in Australia. If you guys want I am happy to cook dinner for the family and can also do some cleaning. Additionally, I am also available on weekends and willing to work for flexible hours throughout the week.
I want this job mainly because of my interest In educating children, I want to utilize my skills to teach a small group of kids as I would be able to fulfil my responsibilities more effectively. Moreover, I just completed my contract with Joseph school and I am looking for a new job. This job might be useful for me as I want to save some money for my future.
I look forward hearing back from you.
Your sincerely,
Dharmveer Singh.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained your suitability through your educational background and experience, offered additional help with household tasks, and provided logical reasons for wanting the position. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the context of the advertisement. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening and closing salutations are consistent with the level of formality required, and try to provide slightly more depth in your reasoning for wanting the job beyond just financial gain.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'Since', which effectively link your ideas. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the slightly awkward phrasing in the final sentence of the third paragraph. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the use of cohesive devices is generally effective, though it could be slightly more varied to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'Early Childhood Education', 'organizational skills', and 'flexible hours'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'Today morning' (should be 'This morning') and 'Your sincerely' (should be 'Yours sincerely'). While you successfully convey your meaning, the vocabulary is somewhat functional and lacks the more sophisticated or precise collocations that would characterize a higher band. Focusing on more natural phrasing and correcting common errors in word formation will help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'I have two years experience of teaching' (should be 'two years' experience teaching') and 'I look forward hearing' (should be 'I look forward to hearing'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors are present, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear. To improve, pay closer attention to preposition usage and verb patterns following specific phrases.
