Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I have seen an advertisement on social media that you are looking for a teacher who can teach English to your kids. My name is Alisha and I am a retired high school teacher.
I am suitable for this job as you mentioned that the teacher has to come to your home to teach your kids. I can provide them study at home I live in the same neighborhood. I am a good reputation teacher.
Secondly, I can take them to the park for half an hour after the class so they will enjoy my teaching. if you need, I can babysit them for a couple hours of the day.
I need this job as well because I'm retired, so I need to make some money for a living. I also have nothing to do at home I get bored sometimes, so it's a good opportunity for me to utilize my time in a good way. I have attached my resume to the letter and my phone number. Please let me know if I am suitable according to your needs.
Yours sincerely,
Alisha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: suitability, additional services, and reasons for applying. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of suitability focuses on proximity rather than professional teaching experience, and the reasons for wanting the job are quite personal rather than professional. While the tone is generally appropriate for a letter, it lacks the polish expected for a formal application. To improve, you should expand on your teaching philosophy or specific skills to better persuade the parents, rather than focusing primarily on your personal need for income or boredom.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Secondly' and 'I also'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed. For example, the transition from discussing your teaching to your personal reasons for needing a job is abrupt. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects smoothly to the next. The opening and closing salutations are appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'advertisement', 'opportunity', and 'utilize'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'I am a good reputation teacher' (should be 'a teacher with a good reputation') and 'provide them study at home'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the score. To improve, focus on learning common collocations related to employment and professional settings, and try to use more precise adjectives to describe your teaching experience.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I can provide them study at home' (missing preposition/structure) and 'for a couple hours of the day' (missing 'a'). Additionally, some sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, such as 'I also have nothing to do at home I get bored sometimes'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Proofreading for basic sentence boundaries will also help increase your accuracy.
