Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Watkisons,
My self, Sujan Patel, a professional tutor of Mathematics and Hindi. I saw your advertisements for teaching your children my national language Hindi.
I have experience of teaching for last five years in secondary school. I always use creative ideas to explain difficult topics in such ways which help students to understand every basic concept easily.
Along with that, I can teach your children other subjects like Maths, Science etc. Moreover, I can teach them more about Indian culture and rituals. Increasing their general knowledge about other places.
I am already working as full-time tutor at Vision Secondary High-School. But, teaching your students is unique experience for me because of online teaching. I learn many new things from your children like English accent, foreign culture etc.
If you find my skills and experience suitable for your children's learning reply me. I will provide you class-time, fee structure and required process for online lectures.
Thank you,
Sujan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain your suitability as a professional tutor, offer additional help with other subjects and cultural education, and state your motivations for wanting the position. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the reasons for wanting the job are mentioned briefly as a desire to learn about a new culture, but this could be expanded to show more enthusiasm or professional interest. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'My self, Sujan Patel' is grammatically incorrect and slightly informal for a professional application.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Along with that' and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For example, the jump from discussing your current job to the benefits of online teaching lacks a smooth logical connector. Additionally, the referencing in the final paragraph is slightly unclear, as 'reply me' is not a standard way to request a response in a formal letter. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different requirements of the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professional tutor', 'creative ideas', and 'rituals'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'I saw your advertisements' should be 'I saw your advertisement', and 'Increasing their general knowledge' is a sentence fragment that should be integrated into the previous sentence. The phrase 'reply me' is also unnatural; a more formal alternative would be 'please let me know' or 'I look forward to hearing from you'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. The opening sentence 'My self, Sujan Patel, a professional tutor...' is a fragment lacking a main verb. There are also issues with articles (e.g., 'teaching for last five years' should be 'teaching for the last five years') and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not impede communication, they are noticeable throughout the text. To improve, focus on ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and pay closer attention to the use of definite and indefinite articles.
