Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear ABC,

I am writing to express my strong interest in the advertisement which you had posted in the newspaper yesterday, regarding a Hindi language teacher. I would love to teach your children this amazing language.

I am from India and know Hindi very well. So I would be a good choice to teach this language to your children. I would make sure that they get acquainted and we'll versed with all the four aspects of the language, namely listening, reading, writing and speaking in the coming weeks.

I have studied Hindi in school for 8 years, and I am sure the children would learn the language very soon because of my simple, easy to understand, child centred teaching techniques. And within a month, they would excel in the language because children generally have a tendency to learn at a very fast pace.

I am a suitable candidate for this task because of many reasons. Firstly, Hindi is my first language. Secondly, I live nearby in your locality and it would be very convenient to arrange the classes. Thirdly, I have worked as a teacher for two years in India, previously. Lastly, learning a language from a native speaker makes a lot of difference so it would be very beneficial for your children. Additionally, I am good at playing the Piano and could teach the same to your kids.

I am very keen to get this job because I am studying at the University and need to support myself financially so this part-time job would be perfect for me, as well as for your children. I would be waiting eagerly for your reply.

Thanking you in anticipation!

Yours sincerely,

Zoya.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explain your suitability by highlighting your native language proficiency and teaching experience. You also effectively suggest an additional service (piano lessons) and provide a clear, personal reason for wanting the job (financial support for your studies). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a potential employer. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. You have maintained a consistent, professional tone throughout, which is essential for this type of task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a polite closing. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Additionally', and 'Consequently' to link your ideas. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate different aspects of your response, making it easy for the reader to follow your argument. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the referencing is clear throughout the text. The structure is well-managed and supports the overall flow of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for the task, such as 'acquainted', 'well-versed', 'convenient', and 'anticipation'. While the vocabulary is generally accurate and natural, there are a few minor issues, such as the phrase 'well versed' being written as 'we'll versed'. However, this does not impede communication. You successfully use topic-specific language related to teaching and language learning. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions that sound even more natural in a professional context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your control of grammar is generally strong. There are a few minor slips, such as 'advertisement which you had posted' (past perfect is unnecessary here; 'posted' or 'have posted' would be better) and 'well versed' (should be 'well-versed'). Punctuation is generally accurate, and the letter follows standard conventions. The grammatical errors present are infrequent and do not cause any confusion for the reader, indicating a high level of control.
