Student answer (Band 5.5)

dear sir,

I hope you are doing well. I writting this latter let you know that i saw you advertisment. I came to klnow you looking for good teacher to teach your kids a english langauge for a year.

I think i could be the best option to get, because i have three years of exprience in teaching english language in school. Not only but i also provide personal classes which would be the best for your two children.

Secondly, while watching your advertisement I found out that your house is really close to my house so i can give you discount on my regular fees and also I could provide personal class at your house that would be so much cheaper for you.

The main reason I am intrested in this job is that I love to teach kids also it is very near to my house that will make my commute easy.

Yours faithfully

Meet Vaghela

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully explained why you would be suitable by mentioning your three years of experience teaching English in a school. You also stated what else you could do, offering a discount on your regular fees and providing personal classes at their house. Finally, you gave your reasons for wanting the job, stating that you love teaching children and that the close proximity of their house to yours makes your commute easy. However, the tone is slightly informal and the salutation 'dear sir' is inconsistent with the prompt, which specifies that the advertisement was placed by a couple. Additionally, some ideas could be extended further to achieve a higher band. Overall, the task requirements are adequately met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter has a discernible overall arrangement and follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to suitability, additional services, and finally personal motivations. Paragraphing is attempted, with distinct blocks of text representing different ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is rather basic and mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For instance, starting paragraphs with 'Secondly' is functional, but the connections between sentences within paragraphs can be disjointed, such as the sudden shift in the second paragraph regarding personal classes. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and punctuation errors around sentence boundaries affect the flow. Nevertheless, the general message remains coherent.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but it is somewhat limited and repetitive. You successfully used terms like 'advertisement', 'experience', 'commute', and 'discount'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'writting' instead of 'writing', 'latter' instead of 'letter', 'advertisment' instead of 'advertisement', 'klnow' instead of 'know', and 'intrested' instead of 'interested'. Furthermore, the phrasing 'best option to get' is unnatural. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to restrict the lexical score to the Band 5 level, as they highlight a lack of precision and control over spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, such as 'I think i could be the best option to get, because i have three years of exprience...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in verb forms, articles, and capitalization (e.g., lowercase 'i', missing articles like 'an english language', and awkward phrasing like 'teach your kids a english langauge'). Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences and comma splices, such as in the final paragraph. While the sentences are generally understandable, the high density of basic grammatical and mechanical errors prevents the response from reaching a Band 6.
