Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in connection with an advertisement for teaching gujarati language for your two children for a year.

I have recently come across to your advertisement which states you aee looking for someone who teach gujarati language to your children. I think I would be suitable for the job because I am very fluent in gujarati as I was born in gujarati family. Additionally, I am very kind and patient. So, I can teach your children without giving extra pressure. Also, I am very funny and innovative so I will teach them in a funny way so that they can learn quickly.

Apart from this, I will help them in their study as I am very good at it. I will play with them and I know basic household work so It would be helpful for you.

I am coming to Australia next week for further study. My course will start from next month and it is completely online based course. I have to go the college once a month only and my college is in your city so this job os perfect for me.

Please let me know if you required any further details. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours sincerely,

Kruti Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The candidate has successfully addressed all three bullet points required in the task instructions. They explained their suitability by highlighting their native fluency in Gujarati and personal traits like patience and innovation. They also detailed what else they could do for the family, such as helping with studies, playing with the children, and assisting with basic household work. Finally, they provided a clear reason for wanting the job, explaining that they are moving to Australia for online studies and need local employment that fits their schedule. Although the opening salutation 'Dear Sir or Madam' is slightly mismatched since the prompt states the advertisement is from a couple, the overall content of the letter fully covers all task requirements with relevant and well-developed ideas, earning a solid band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter exhibits a clear logical progression and overall coherent arrangement. The paragraphs are organised reasonably well, moving from an introduction to the specific reasons for suitability, additional help, personal circumstances, and a polite sign-off. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'So', 'Also', and 'Apart from this' are used to connect ideas, though some transitional phrasing feels a bit repetitive or mechanical (e.g., frequent use of 'very'). Paragraphing is generally adequate, separating different ideas into distinct blocks of text, although the third paragraph is somewhat brief. Referencing is mostly clear, ensuring the reader can easily follow the narrative from the job application to the logistical details of the candidate's move to Australia.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, successfully communicating the intended message. The candidate attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'innovative', 'connection', 'consideration', and 'circumstances' (implied), but there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies. For example, phrases like 'come across to your advertisement' contain unnecessary prepositions, and 'online based course' is slightly unnatural compared to 'online course'. Repetition of intensifiers like 'very' (e.g., 'very fluent', 'very kind', 'very funny') restricts the lexical range. However, errors in word choice and spelling do not impede communication, making this performance fit comfortably into the band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at structures like subordinate clauses ('so that they can learn quickly') and conditional elements. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text. Examples include 'who teach' instead of 'who teaches', 'aee looking' (typographical error), 'giving extra pressure' instead of 'putting pressure', 'It would be helpful' with an unnecessary capital letter, and 'job os perfect' (typo). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede overall communication or make the letter difficult to understand.
