Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear sir,
I am writing to request you for a job to teach you children.
To begin with, i read your advertisement on social media. I found my self as a teacher of my language because I have a professional language certificate to teach my language for anyone.
In addition, on the other hand i can make plenty of cousins for yours family as well as in my free time i can make breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Finally, I need experience in my teching field for my future, also i am living alone, so I need to see more people around me. I would be a greatful if you could give me a chance.
Hope to see you soon.• Can not wait to hear from you!
Your faithfully, Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. The writer explains suitability by mentioning a professional language certificate, states additional help by offering cooking services and household assistance, and provides reasons for wanting the job such as gaining experience and seeking social interaction. However, the task achievement is heavily penalised because the length requirement of 150 words is not met, as the response contains only 129 words. Furthermore, some ideas like making cousins are nonsensical due to lexical confusion, which impacts the overall clarity of development.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter opens with a formal salutation and attempts a paragraph structure, although the paragraphs are very brief and resemble isolated sentences. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition, on the other hand', and 'Finally' are used to sequence ideas, but some transitions are unnatural or logically contradictory, as seen in the phrase 'In addition, on the other hand'. Paragraphing is under-developed due to the short overall length of the text, and referencing is occasionally confusing, making the progression of ideas feel somewhat disjointed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with noticeable word choice and collocation errors that occasionally impede understanding. For example, the phrase 'make plenty of cousins for yours family' contains a severe lexical error, likely intended to mean chores or cooking. Other awkward usages include 'teching field' and 'greatful'. While the student attempts to use some task-related vocabulary such as 'advertisement' and 'professional language certificate', the limited range and frequent errors restrict the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I found my self as a teacher of my language because I have a professional language certificate'. However, control over grammar and punctuation is weak, with frequent errors including incorrect verb tenses, missing articles, and punctuation issues like the bullet point symbol appearing mid-text. Examples of errors include 'teach you children', 'i read', 'my self', and 'I would be a greatful'. These errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader.
