Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing in respose of your advert printed in the TImes Of India newspaper last week. I noticed that you are looking for a hindi language tutor for your kids and I am interested to apply for this role.
The reason being I am the best person for this duty is because I have an educational background in hindi and in addition to this hindi language is my mother toungue. I have a fluency in all area of this language, for instance, listening, speaking, writing and reading. Not only this but I was also previously teaching hindi in one of the schools in my country.
If you select me for this position I would be happy to relocate Australia as you are also providing accommodation for the person doing this job. I can also help you in other household chores if you want during my free times over there or I can teach other subjects to your childerens as well if they want.
I need this position because I am trying to come to Australia for a very long time but there are lot of restriction on Visas and due to this my visa got rejected many times; however, if you provide me an offer letter for this job it would be easier to get approved.
I am looking forward to your responce.
Yours faithfully,
Nitin Chavda.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required by the task. You successfully explain your suitability by mentioning your educational background, native fluency in Hindi, and previous teaching experience. You also state what else you could do, offering to help with household chores or teach other subjects, and you provide your reasons for wanting the job, specifically noting your desire to relocate to Australia and how an offer letter would assist with your visa process. However, the greeting used is 'Dear Sir or Madam,' whereas the prompt states you saw an advertisement from a 'couple,' making a more specific greeting or 'Dear Family,' more appropriate. Additionally, some ideas regarding visa struggles are slightly over-detailed, but overall, the task is fully addressed in a clear and relevant manner, comfortably achieving a Band 6.5 to 7.0 level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent and follows a logical structure, moving from an introduction to your background, additional contributions, and reasons for applying, before ending with a polite sign-off. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as your qualifications in the second paragraph and your visa motivations in the fourth paragraph. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition to this,' 'Not only this but,' and 'however,' although some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive in structure. Referencing is mostly clear, though occasional minor slip-ups in paragraph linkage prevent it from reaching a higher band. Overall, the organization is clear and easy to follow, supporting a solid Band 6.0 performance.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items such as 'educational background,' 'relocate,' and 'household chores.' However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the response. For example, 'respose' should be 'response,' 'TImes Of India' contains capitalization errors, and 'mother toungue' is misspelled as 'toungue.' Furthermore, phrases like 'I am interested to apply' would be more naturally expressed as 'I am interested in applying.' While these lexical errors do not impede communication, their frequency prevents the score from rising into the higher bands. The range is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, warranting a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses ('who live in Australia') and conditional sentences ('if you select me...'). However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several structural errors, including missing prepositions and awkward phrasing such as 'The reason being I am the best person for this duty is because...' and 'I have a fluency in all area,' where 'area' should be plural and the article 'a' is unnecessary. Other errors include 'free times' (uncountable) and 'childerens' (incorrect plural). Punctuation and capitalization are also slightly flawed in places. Because errors are frequent enough to occasionally cause the reader hesitation, though they do not obscure the overall meaning, this corresponds to a Band 5.5.
