Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The candidate has addressed all parts of the prompt satisfactorily. In the opening, she explains why she is suitable for the job by highlighting her background as an occupational physiotherapist and her multilingual skills, mentioning English, Punjabi, Hindi, French, and Korean. She also explains what else she can do for the family, stating that she can play with the children, teach them creative activities, and help with homework. Furthermore, she outlines her reasons for wanting the job, noting that she is looking for a part-time role due to having free time on the weekend and that she is alone in Canada, which motivates her to spend time with the family. The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal letter, and the ideas are relevant, though some points like spending time with them and enjoying could be slightly more expanded.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter is generally coherent and has a clear overall arrangement with distinct paragraph breaks corresponding to the prompt requirements. The greeting 'Dear Mike,' and sign-off 'Yours faithfully,' are slightly mismatched (usually 'Yours sincerely' is used with a first name), but this is a minor convention slip. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Furthermore', 'As a result', and 'In other words'. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or abrupt, and referencing is occasionally slightly loose. Paragraphing is adequate to separate the different bullet points from the prompt, maintaining an easy-to-follow flow of information throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-related terms such as 'occupational physiotherapist', 'paediatrics patients', 'delayed milestones', and 'creative activities'. However, there are notable word choice and phrasing inaccuracies, such as 'i can teach your children language' (missing article), 'I learn french when i arrived' (tense inconsistency), 'cannot independtly doing' (incorrect form), and 'free time during weekend' (article omission). Despite these lexical errors, communication is never impeded, and the vocabulary remains minimally sufficient to cover the required functions of a general letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional or causal clauses introduced by 'Since' and 'Because'. There are frequent grammatical errors in punctuation and tense control, notably lowercase 'i' instead of 'I', missing articles ('in Canada', 'during weekend'), and awkward verb forms like 'decided to doing job' instead of 'decided to do a job'. Additionally, spelling contains a couple of slips ('paedetrics', 'resullt'). While these errors are noticeable and detract from precision, the majority of simple sentences are clear, and the errors only occasionally strain the reader rather than completely obscuring meaning.
