Dear .................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr & Mrs. Rogers,
I am writing this letter in respose to your advertisement for a language tutor for your kids. I saw it yesterday on my way home I found it interesting opportunity to teach my language.
I have been teaching children since I was in college. All kids from my neighbourhood used to come to study. They used to enjoy while learning as I made sure that no children feel stressed when they study. I set goals achieveable that pupils gain confidence.
I have free time on weekdays after 5pm and I am free on weekends. I can do online as well as in-sessions as well. I would like to show them my culture so I would love to invite them on our festivals.
I want this opportunity not only to earn some extra income but to share my culture and my language to upcoming generation. As I have always been great with childrent I think I would be able to connect with them easily.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Sonam Prajapati

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The student has successfully addressed all three bullet points outlined in the task prompt. The letter clearly explains why the writer is suitable by mentioning past teaching experience and an approachable teaching style. It outlines additional contributions, such as availability for online or in-person lessons and sharing cultural festivals. Furthermore, the motivation for taking the job is explicitly stated as earning extra income and passing on language and culture to the younger generation. The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal letter to a couple advertising for a tutor, and the ideas are fully developed and well-supported throughout the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, body paragraphs that separate different ideas, and a standard closing. Progression is evident from introducing the purpose of the letter to detailing suitability, additional offerings, and personal motivations. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes. However, there are minor cohesion issues and abrupt transitions, such as in the second paragraph where sentences like 'I set goals achieveable that pupils gain confidence' feel slightly disconnected and lack smooth linking devices. Overall, the arrangement is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully using terms such as 'advertisement', 'opportunity', 'neighbourhood', and 'motivation'. There are, however, some word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'respose' instead of response, 'achieveable' with inverted word order, and 'childrent' instead of children. Despite these minor errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly without impeding communication, showing an attempt to use less common expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic grammatical structures. Examples include conditional and relative clauses like 'I would like to show them my culture so I would love to invite them on our festivals.' There are, however, several grammatical slips and awkward phrasings, such as missing prepositions ('in-sessions' instead of in-person sessions) and slight structural errors ('no children feel stressed' instead of children feeling stressed). These errors do not impede communication, and the majority of simple sentences are accurate.
