Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the task prompt. You explained why you would be suitable by mentioning your English proficiency certification and 5 years of teaching experience. You also stated what else you could do by offering to teach music (guitar and piano) and other languages like Spanish, Italian, and Turkish. Finally, you gave your reasons for wanting the job, noting that you have been searching for a job for the past 2 months and saw the advertisement as a great opportunity. The tone is appropriate for a letter, though starting with 'Dear Sir' is slightly generic since the prompt mentions a couple, but this does not detract from fulfilling the core requirements. Overall, the task is adequately handled and all prompts are addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement, and the information flows logically from your suitability into additional skills and finally your reasons for applying. However, the organization is hindered by a lack of proper paragraphing, as the entire response is written as a single block of text. Cohesive devices are also rather basic and repetitive, relying frequently on simple connectors like 'and' and 'also'. Referencing is generally clear, but the lack of paragraph division impacts the overall readability and logical progression of the piece. To reach a higher band, you should divide your ideas into distinct paragraphs corresponding to each part of the prompt and use a wider variety of cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The lexical range used is adequate for the task. You successfully employ some topic-specific vocabulary such as 'advertisment', 'tutor', 'proficiency certified', and 'opportunity'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('advertisment', 'Proficency', 'cabale') and some issues with word choice and form, such as 'cabale' instead of 'capable'. While you attempt some less common vocabulary, the repetition of basic verbs and adjectives limits the lexical score. Communication is not impeded by these errors, but greater precision and accuracy in word formation and spelling are required to achieve a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I have been teaching Language for past 5 years, I am also English Proficency certified.' However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout the text, including comma splices and missing articles ('teach language' instead of 'teach a language', 'searching for job' instead of 'searching for a job'). There are also sentence fragments and run-on structures like 'And make them capable of Speaking, Writing and listening English.' Despite these frequent minor errors, the meaning remains clear and communication is not seriously impeded. Improving your control over complex structures and punctuation will help raise your grammar score.
