Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr and Mrs Smith,
I hope you both are doing well . Yesterday, I came across your publicity in which you mentioned that you both are looking for a teacher, who can teach your children French language for a year. I think your wait is over, as I have teach french for four years.
Lovelies, I believe I could be a suitable candidate for the job because I am a certified teacher who graduated from french university and french is my first language.Additionally, I teach students both online and offline, and I also provide home tutoring.
Dearies, Along with regular classes, I can also provide extracurricular activities, such as introducing your children to French culture, talking with French people and organising enjoyable language activities. Your children will also have opportunities to give presentations in French and improve their confidence.
Sweeties,I am particularly interested in this job because, firstly, I would like to gain more experience and add it to my résumé. Secondly, I would have the opportunity to live with an Australian family and understand their culture as well. Moreover, my extended family lives there, so I believe this would be a beneficial experience for both sides.
yours faithfully,
Venus.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all the required bullet points of the task. You effectively explained why you are suitable by highlighting your professional background as a certified teacher with a degree from a French university and native fluency. You also outlined additional contributions, such as introducing the children to French culture and organising enjoyable language activities, and provided clear personal and professional reasons for wanting the job. However, the tone is occasionally inappropriate for a formal letter of application, particularly with overly familiar greetings like "Lovelies", "Dearies", and "Sweeties". These terms are unsuitable for communicating with prospective employers. Despite this stylistic slip, all parts of the prompt are fully addressed with relevant, supportive ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a clear, logical organisation and progression. You use appropriate paragraphing, dedicating each body paragraph to a specific aspect of the prompt: suitability, additional help, and reasons for applying. Cohesive devices such as "Additionally", "Along with regular classes", and "Moreover" are used to connect ideas, though some referencing and transitional elements feel a bit mechanical. The transition between paragraphs is generally smooth, but the abrupt shift in register within paragraphs affects the overall cohesion and appropriateness of the letter format. Overall, the ideas flow in a structured and easy-to-follow manner.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms such as "certified teacher", "extracurricular activities", and " résumé". There are some successful attempts to use less common vocabulary, but word choice and lexical control are undermined by severe register errors. Using colloquial, overly affectionate terms like "Lovelies", "Dearies", and "Sweeties" in a job application is entirely inappropriate and demonstrates a lack of awareness of professional style and tone. Additionally, there is a minor error in capitalization and phrasing such as "publicity" instead of "advertisement".
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable command of basic grammar. You successfully utilised complex structures such as relative clauses ("who can teach your children French language for a year") and conditional or causal links ("because I am a certified teacher who graduated from french university"). However, there are notable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as "I have teach french for four years" (incorrect verb tense/form) and missing articles in "graduated from french university". Punctuation errors also occur, such as missing spaces after commas and periods. These errors do not impede overall communication, but they lower the accuracy score.
