Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response covers all three bullet points required by the task prompt. The writer explains suitability by mentioning 15 years of teaching experience, adds value by offering to teach mental health activities like yoga and meditation, and gives reasons for wanting the job due to family financial difficulties and the need for medical expenses. However, the tone and address format are slightly mixed, starting with 'Dear sir' despite writing to a couple, and the development of ideas remains somewhat basic. The purpose is nonetheless clear and successfully communicated throughout the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter uses basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'Actully'. Paragraphing is attempted, though the division between paragraphs is slightly disjointed, with some single-sentence paragraphs at the end. The logical progression is generally maintained as the writer moves from introducing their suitability to extra services and personal reasons. However, referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the abrupt shift to family crises without adequate transitional embedding.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully using terms such as 'advertisement', 'candidate', 'experience', and 'treatment'. There are, however, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'advertise' instead of advertisement, 'jo' instead of job, 'tech' instead of teach, 'exersice' instead of exercise, 'crices' instead of crises, and 'Actully' instead of Actually. These errors indicate a limited command of word forms and spelling, though meaning is still comprehensible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing this letter to you because you published an advertise for your children' and 'she needs treatment but it is very expensive'. While some sentences are accurate, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'tech your children about mental health such as yoga, meditation, physical exersice which you can join also' and 'Hope you are giving me positive response soon' (missing subject pronoun). These errors occasionally require the reader to re-read, placing the response firmly at a Band 5.0 level.
