Student answer (Band 5.5)
Sir/Madam,
I am writting this letter in the response of your advertisement that I saw yesterday.I am a postgraduate job seeker fluent in French.I have a diploma in French along with that I have too given the relevant test and I got C1 which is given only to the proficient users.I assure you that I will teach your children in an interesting and commendable manner so.they won't get bore and over burdened.By truely focusing on learning I will try to build good habbits in them and I will teach them social values which are not inherent in oneself by the children.
I need this job on an urgent basis so that I can able to pay my fees of college as I am doing an online additional postgraduate course. I am available from thursday to saturday as on monday to wednesday I am busy with my classes.
Thanks for your consideration. I look forward to your response.
Your sincerely,
Khushpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You successfully explain why you are suitable by mentioning your diploma in French and C1 proficiency score. You also outline what else you could do for the family, such as teaching social values and helping them build good habits. Finally, you state your reasons for wanting the job, explaining that you need to pay college fees for an online postgraduate course. However, the tone of the opening is slightly inappropriate as you addressed the letter 'Sir/Madam' rather than the names provided in the prompt ('a couple'), and there are some awkward expressions regarding what children can learn. Overall, the requirements of the task have been addressed, earning a solid Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical progression from introducing the purpose of the letter, to explaining suitability and additional help, and finally stating personal reasons and availability. Paragraphing is used to separate the main ideas, although the second paragraph is a bit dense and could be broken down further. Cohesive devices are generally simple and occasionally mechanical, such as 'Along with that' and 'I assure you that'. Referencing is mostly clear, though some punctuation errors (like missing spaces after periods) create minor disruptions in the visual flow. The sign-off uses a slightly unnatural blend ('Your sincerely, Khushpreet'). This performance aligns well with the descriptors for Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to use less common items such as 'postgraduate job seeker', 'proficient users', and 'commendable manner'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'writting' (spelling), 'in the response of', 'too given', 'get bore' instead of 'bored', and 'over burdened' as two words. While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect a limited control over precision and word formation. The range is sufficient to convey the message, but the lexical slips and spelling mistakes prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Therefore, a score of 5.5 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses ('which are not inherent') and modal verbs ('I assure you that I will teach'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues, such as missing spaces after full stops ('yesterday.I am', 'manner so.they'), incorrect prepositional usage ('in the response of'), and awkward phrasing like 'so that I can able to pay'. Punctuation control is weak in places, leading to run-on sentences and punctuation attached to the wrong words. Although communication is maintained and meaning remains clear, the frequency of structural inaccuracies keeps this criterion at a Band 5.5.
