Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. First, the writer explains their suitability by mentioning their background growing up with three siblings, caring for their needs, and holding a diploma in early childhood education. Second, they state what else they could do by highlighting volunteer activities, babysitting, home tutoring, and an internship in an INGO focusing on children's right to education. Finally, the reasons for wanting the job are clearly communicated: to help children learn new things, gain more experience, and improve their resume. The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. The response addresses all parts of the task well, earning a solid Band 7.0 for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each addressing a distinct aspect of the prompt. The introduction establishes the purpose of the letter, the second and third paragraphs detail the writer's background and experience, and the final paragraph outlines their motivations. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'Talking about my experience' and 'I am currently', though referencing and transitions could be slightly more sophisticated to reach a higher band. Paragraphing is used appropriately and overall there is a clear logical progression throughout the text. Minor mechanical flaws in cohesion do not impede the reader's understanding, supporting a Band 6.5 rating.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to education and childcare, such as 'certified tutor', 'early childhood education', and 'volunteree activities'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('interrested', 'sibllings', 'understanting', 'involve', 'volunteree', 'intership', 'gaing', 'have improve') and a typographical/grammatical slip ('Regar' at the sign-off). While these errors do not impede communication because the context is clear, their frequency prevents the score from rising into the higher bands. The vocabulary is generally functional and appropriate for general correspondence, justifying a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. Examples of successful complex sentences include 'I have been taking care of my sibllings and have been responsible for their food and education as my parents were busy with their work.' However, there are several grammatical errors, such as tense usage ('I have recently came across' instead of 'come') and prepositional/article choices ('graduated my diploma', 'ingo, who works for children right'). Additionally, lowercase 'i' is used multiple times for the personal pronoun. These errors indicate a lack of full grammatical control, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.
