Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr & Mrs Smith,
I hope this letter finds you well. I recently came across your advertisement, for someone to teach your two children Urdu language for a year. I am a Pakistani citizen and my native language is Urdu. I have an exceptionally good grip over the language in both writing and speaking.
Furthermore, I also studied Urdu language in detail in my O/A Level and scored A* at both levels. I will share a copy of my qualification with you along with this letter. Additionally, I have ten years of teaching experience. I am also happy to share my employer's details with you for verification. I would love to avail this opportunity and teach Urdu language to your children and I promise a guarantee improvement withing the first three months.
Moreover, I have a very interactive teaching style. I will also arrange group activities for your family on weekends and all of us will interact in Urdu. This will strengthen your family bond and would bring a noticable improvement in your children communication.
To be honest, I have a passion for teaching. I really enjoy teaching and I believe that I am very good at it. This is the only reason I've been teaching from last ten years. Your house is very close to mine so it will be very convenient for me to comute.
I look forward to a in-person meeting with you and your children.
Many thanks,
Asad

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt, earning a strong performance. The writer clearly explains why they are suitable for the job by detailing native proficiency and ten years of teaching experience. Additional services are well-covered through the offer to arrange weekend group activities to bond the family and improve communication. Reasons for wanting the job are also provided, including a genuine passion for teaching and the convenient proximity of the family's house. All bullet points are appropriately addressed and extended with relevant details, maintaining a clear and polite semi-formal letter format throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Information is grouped sensibly into paragraphs, where each paragraph handles a specific aspect of the prompt. The writer uses cohesive devices adequately, such as 'Furthermore', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'To be honest', which help guide the reader smoothly from one point to the next. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring the structure supports the communicative purpose of the letter without mechanical faults.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the intended meaning with sufficient range for basic flexibility. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary and appropriate phrasing, such as 'exceptionally good grip', 'interactive teaching style', and 'verification'. However, there are minor lexical and spelling slips, such as 'comute' instead of commute, 'noticable' instead of noticeable, and 'guarantee improvement' instead of guaranteed improvement. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from reaching a higher level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating good control over sentence structures overall. Sentences such as 'Furthermore, I also studied Urdu language in detail in my O/A Level and scored A* at both levels' show accurate handling of complex clauses. There are some minor grammatical errors, such as 'Urdu language' missing the definite article in places, 'withing' instead of 'within', 'communication' used as a noun where 'communicative skills' might fit better, and 'from last ten years' instead of 'for the last ten years'. These errors are infrequent and rarely impede communication.
