Student answer (Band 5.5)
Hi, I hope you guys are doing well. I saw your advertisement regarding teaching Punjabi to your two children. I am telling you a little bit about myself:-
I have a Master's in Punjabi Language.
I have five years of experience in the same field.
Currently, I am working with one of the famous institutes in our city. The timing you mentioned in the advertisement is suitable for me. Teaching is not my proffesion its my hobby, so I put my 100%on that. You guys can check reviews on my current job. It will be easy for you to know about me. At that time, I also gave some extra time to upgrade their skills and behaviour. So that they feel comfortable when they speak their language to someone else. I gave them some grooming sessions also. This will help their overall development. I hope you check the mail and give me a chance to prove myself.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your response addresses the task partially. While you manage to mention some relevant details such as your background in teaching Punjabi and why you are interested in the position, the ideas are presented in a limited way without sufficient extension or detail. For instance, when explaining why you are suitable, you simply list bullet-like statements ('I have a Master's in Punjabi Language') rather than developing them into fully explained points within your letter. Similarly, your explanation of what else you could do for the family remains somewhat vague and under-developed, focusing briefly on grooming sessions without elaborating on how these activities would benefit the children on a day-to-day basis. To reach a higher standard, you need to expand all bullet points into fully supported, coherent paragraphs that address every part of the prompt in greater depth.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation in your letter, moving from a greeting to an introduction and concluding with a sign-off, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Instead of using cohesive devices or appropriate paragraph breaks to connect your thoughts smoothly, the response relies on a series of short, abrupt sentences that feel disconnected. For example, moving directly from 'I am telling you a little bit about myself' into a series of separate statements disrupts the natural flow of a formal or semi-formal letter. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, and cohesive devices are inadequate or repetitive. To improve your score in this area, you should group your ideas into logical paragraphs and use a wider variety of transition words and cohesive phrases to guide the reader clearly through your letter.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for this task, successfully communicating your basic points about teaching and your background. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, such as the spelling mistake 'proffesion' instead of 'profession', and awkward word choices like 'I am telling you a little bit about myself', which sound too informal and colloquial for a job application letter. While you attempt some less common vocabulary items related to education and child development, inaccuracies in word choice and spelling occasionally cause some difficulty or make the tone inappropriate. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate a more precise range of professional vocabulary, ensure correct spelling, and adopt a consistently polite and suitable tone throughout the correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your writing demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences with very few attempts at complex forms. When you do attempt more complex structures, such as 'Teaching is not my proffesion its my hobby, so I put my 100%on that', it results in punctuation errors like comma splices and missing spacing. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles and awkward prepositional phrases, such as 'I put my 100% on that' instead of 'I give it my all'. These errors can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, you should practice using a wider variety of complex sentence patterns with dependent clauses, pay closer attention to punctuation rules, and carefully check your verb forms and prepositions before final submission.
