Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt only partially, which is characteristic of this level. While you covered all three bullet points by explaining your suitability, mentioning that you can cook and take care of children, and stating your financial reasons for wanting the job, your ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, you mention that your previous company expired next month and that you learned the language from school, but these points lack necessary expansion and clarity. Additionally, your opening salutation 'Dear Sir,' is slightly inappropriate since the advertisement was placed by a couple, and your position throughout the letter is not always clear. To move to a higher band, you need to fully develop your ideas with relevant details and clear explanations for each part of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation in your letter, as you have separated your thoughts into distinct paragraphs covering different points, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. You attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Foremost' and 'Besides, these reasons', but referencing and linking can be repetitive or inaccurate. For example, your transitional phrases feel somewhat mechanical rather than naturally guiding the reader through your letter. Paragraphing is used, but the flow between sentences and paragraphs is occasionally disjointed. To achieve a higher score, you should ensure that your ideas are logically sequenced with a wider variety of accurate and natural cohesive devices, creating a smoother progression throughout the entire response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your lexical range is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing you to get your basic message across. You attempt some less common vocabulary items, such as 'financial needs' and 'international student', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word forms that cause some difficulty for the reader. For example, you wrote 'compay' instead of 'company', 'tution' instead of 'tuition', and 'Aistralia' instead of 'Australia'. Furthermore, phrases like 'job which you post' and 'make fix an interview' show inappropriate collocations. To improve your lexical score, you must work on accurate spelling and expand your vocabulary with more precise terms and natural collocations suited for professional correspondence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Your writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions that can cause difficulty for the reader. For example, you wrote 'Since the contract of my previous compay expired next month, there is no caretakers', which contains tense inconsistency and a plural agreement error with 'is'. Other errors include 'in which i were take care of children' and 'for full time job'. To reach a higher band, you need to produce a better mix of error-free sentences, improve your control over verb forms and agreement, and avoid frequent basic grammatical mistakes.
